Masala Pomfret

In spite of being a Bengali, I am not much fond of fish and specially the typical fish curries, which are so popular here! Bengal is well known for its variety of fishes, hundreds of authentic fish recipes and restaurants where you get to taste some of the best dishes like ilish paturi, daab chingri, shorshe ilish, bhetki paturi ...the list is simply endless.

Each fish recipe is about some unique combination of spices. Each dish has its unique taste which makes it totally different from the other.

Pomfret is not a typical 'Bengal' fish but widely appreciated and easily available.

masala pomfret, pomfret,
Masala Pomfret is a spicy recipe. Fish is fried in mustard sauce. There is actually no gravy but the fish is soaked in fried 'masala'.

Masala is a rich combination of ginger garlic paste, green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, little salt - everything well mixed and fried in mustard oil. The mixture is continuously stirred till cooked.

Masala pomfret tastes wonderful when served with rice.

Seafood Bisque

Sea Food Bisque

Not my personal favorite though!!
Tasted this for the first time today and honestly I didn't enjoy it! A smooth, quite creamy and dense soup. It was prepared using shrimps, crabs, lobsters which were all pureed well. It had a generous dose of butter which actually did nothing to its taste!
